There’s been a narrative that Omicron may be milder than previous strains. But scientists say they don’t actually know this yet. And even if it is, we could still be facing a big problem for the health system. | Aisha Dow | ANALYSIS Omicron covid19

Omicron in NSW is causing what commentators say is its signature look - a close-to-vertical upwards line of cases. It makes for a striking graph.

This means we don’t know how many of these thousands of new cases will develop into serious bouts of illness needing medical care, and how at risk our hospitals are of being pushed beyond the brink. While some have jumped on the comparatively small increase in hospital cases as a sign Omicron could be less dangerous, experts say there’s always a lag between new infections and people falling ill.

“There’s a huge potential for the case numbers to be at unprecedented levels by the time we do know about severity … and we would have lost the opportunity to minimise the impact.”

They said that about Delta and it was bullshit. It's hard to compare with earlier strains because younger people are getting it more often and vaccines make it milder.

Did the last time the health system collapsed? How much are you fear-mongers gonna play that card?

aishamae Yes. And, Long Covid. Disability is a real & persistent outcome from this virus, including different variants. Young, healthy, female people, in particular, are still not being warned that they are at greatest risk of longterm disability, even from so-called “mild” cases.

It comes down to this: 2 doses, 3 doses, 5 doses, 300 doses - however many, it does nothing to satisfy grubs like Sutton’s lust for control, and bedwetter journos from The Age etc. and their desperation to remain relevant. It’s a low point in human existence that’s for sure.

They may not have the full picture yet, but initial data from OS is certainly encouraging and does align with said narrative. Their biggest fear is that people will drop their guard with this variant.

More importantly, who cares anymore? If Florida, Sweden and Brazil’s hospitals could handle it with no vax then we are absolutely sweet with our vax rate.

Omicron is an anagram for moronic What a surprise Stories and headlines continue

How irresponsible is it to push this baseless panic? And the media wonders why trust in them is at an all time low. This 'narrative' you speak of is evidence based.

The scientists can’t even tell you about the effect of the vaccine how are they going to tell you about something that’s been here for decades and people have lived with it, the difference is the flu has a name now where before was only called the flu.

US infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci says Omicron variant is 'just raging around the world'Anthony Fauci, the USA's leading infectious disease expert, says the major issue for the US is the number of unvaccinated people. Good. Going by the latest reports and studies, Omicron is a weaker variant to that of Delta, and it follows the path of most viruses that mutate. More scaremongering from Fauci. Oh same guy that funded the thing 🙄 yeah let's rush for his treatment that doesn't work. News flash virus mutation = more contagious. Check out RWMaloneMD & P_McCulloughMD for some real science. This guy is wack & can't make up his mind! 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️
