While $320 million is given to state governments to provide free mammograms to women over 40, only 55 per cent respond to the letters sent out by state organisations and come forward for screenings.
“We want to add general practice to the mix so that general practice can actually see and recommend and support women getting their screening,” he told Sky News host Caleb Bond. “And we estimate that within three, possibly up to five years we will get screening rates closer to 90 per cent.”
