Thousands of protesters have again converged on Spring Street to oppose the COVID-19 vaccine mandate, lockdowns and new emergency laws introduced by the Andrews Government.Protesters march from Parliament House on Sunday.The crowd initially appeared to be underwhelming but groups of people continue to arrive at the protest. By 12.45pm, the crowd stretched from the corner of La Trobe Street to Carlton Gardens.
A couple from Warrnambool, who are both unable to work after refusing the vaccine, have attended protests for the past six weeks. They say their two sons, aged 22 and 20, have also been forced to defer studies after being advised by a doctor not to get vaccinated because they have anaphylaxis. “We consider ourselves to be very rational, reasonable people but we can’t understand why a government would prevent its citizens from earning a living. We can’t abide by that and we think people should be very concerned,” the man from Warrnambool said.The man declined to provide his name but said he had been unable to work in retail, while his wife was prohibited from working in the health industry.
Protesters will head into the city despite a number of road closures due to the Melbourne Marathon, which is due to have thousands of runners and supporters jogging around the city until the early afternoon.
