Delta variant present in PH prior to first detection

MANILA – The Delta variant had been present in the country at least two months before the Department of Health first reported two patients infected with the variant, which first emerged in India.

Since its detection in May and first local transmission in July, the Delta variant has gone on to become the most detected variant among samples sequenced by the PGC. But Vergeire said efforts by the national and local governments, as well as the public’s cooperation, have helped control the transmission of the highly contagious variant.
