The 95-year-old monarch indicated she would attend the service after backing out of other recent obligations, including the COP26 climate conference, following doctors’ advice to rest.
But just hours before the event, Buckingham Palace announced the Queen would not be in attendance due to a back injury. "The Queen, having sprained her back, has decided this morning with great regret that she will not be able to attend today's Remembrance Sunday service at the Cenotaph," a statement read."Her Majesty is disappointed that she will miss the service."The Remembrance Day service would have marked the Queen’s first public appearance since October after she was urged to rest following a one-night hospital stay.
On behalf of The Queen, a wreath is laid by The Prince of Wales at the Cenotaph as part of the National Service of Remembrance.
