Taoiseach Micheal Martin has said we are not likely to see a 'Christmas lockdown' despite surging Covid-19 case numbers. lockdown COVIDIreland

Taoiseach Micheal Martin has said we are not likely to see a "Christmas lockdown" despite surging Covid-19 case numbers. However health experts are not yet recommending the return of any restrictions, although they are asking the government to advise people to work from home, and extend the use of vaccine certs.

"If we didn't have vaccination we would be in lockdown because we have a very highly transmissible variant, the Delta variant." "I don't see a dramatic going back or returning to where we were but because of socialisation, because we have reopened society, with the Delta variant that has resulted in very high case numbers and that is worrying," Mr Martin said.

However, a senior Government source said “the advice has been clear and people should work from home where possible and only go into the office for specific purposes.”
