The 32-year-old was detained by gardaí in the past week after he was found partially clothed on a street in Dublin city centre.
He was brought to a garda station where he was examined by a doctor before being released with a voluntary referral to a local hospital. He was rearrested yesterday morning on suspicion of murder and is still being detained at Finglas Garda Station. The mental welfare of the suspect in the murder of the woman, who was known to him, is a principal line of inquiry in the garda investigation. It is believed the man alerted the gardaí, who found the woman's body in her home in Charlestown, Finglas with severe head and neck injuries.Detectives say they are not aware of any previous history of domestic violence or similar issues at the apartment.
The man's previous contact with gardaí, the health services or any other organisations now forms part of the murder investigation.
