Hospital patient’s COVID-19 infection undetected for four days | marywardy lucy_carroll

A COVID-19 infection of a newly admitted mental health patient at Nepean Hospital went undetected for four days, senior NSW Health bureaucrats have confirmed, resulting in the infection of almost all patients in the unit.has seen internal documents which indicate vaccination coverage in mental health patients in Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District continues to be extremely low.

As the patient was asymptomatic, Dr Lyons said they were not picked up as a COVID-19 risk by the hospital’s screening processes. The patient had interacted with “a lot of other patients” by that point, Dr Lyons said, noting the interaction with other patients and staff in such a unit was considered important from a therapeutic perspective.
