The Bureau of Immigration disclosed Friday, Oct. 29, that it does not require specific health insurance brands for Filipinos to travel abroad.“Any brand of travel and health insurance maybe used by departing Filipinos provided it covers coronavirus ,” Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said.
The BI chief issued the clarification after some unscrupulous insurance agents were spreading false claims on the Internet that the bureau requires the use of certain brand of health insurance for Filipino travelers. BI insiders said the rumor started appearing online after the government allowed Filipinos to travel abroad as subjected to health protocols set by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases .
The task force also required Filipino tourists to present a round-trip ticket, the length of their stay abroad, and sign a declaration acknowledging the risk of travel due to the prevailing coronavirus disease pandemic.
