NSW Health announces a new border exemption to make it easier for NSW residents to travel to and from the ACT for work and medical care, despite rising case numbers in the southern part of the state.

Border exemptions to allow easier travel from New South Wales into the ACT for work or medical care is a positive step forward but there needs to be more clarity on the rules for school students, Eden Monaro Labor MP Kristy McBain says.

Ms McBain said the change would be positive news for many residents who relied on travelling to the capital region for essential services. However, Ms McBain believes there still needs to be some clarification around the rules for students who go to school in the ACT. Goulburn has also recorded an additional case, while the Bega Valley and Eurobodalla have recorded no new cases.

"In time there will be people coming down to visit our beautiful part of the world and with that comes the risk of them bringing the virus so we need to be particularly cautious." The Southern NSW Local Health District has announced the main hospital clinic will be closed while a pop-up clinic operates out of Eden.
