The World Health Organization has unveiled its new global vaccination strategy to ensure 40% of people in all countries are vaccinated by the end of this year.

United Nations secretary-general Antonio Guterres on Thursday called for $8 billion in funds from member nations to help ensure a more equitable rollout of vaccines across the world, an appeal that came on the day that the World Health Organisation unveiled a new global vaccination strategy to end what it has labeled “a two-track pandemic.”...

The U.N. chief called on the leaders of the G20 nations—who are scheduled to meet later this month—to deliver on their previously stated “desire to get the world vaccinated.” wants to ensure that 40% of people in all countries are vaccinated by the end of this year and 70% by mid-2022. The UN agency noted that even though nearly 6.5 billion doses had been administered globally by the end of September, high and upper-middle-income countries have used 75% of all the vaccines produced while less than half a percent of doses have gone to low-income countries.

The new vaccine push by the global body comes at a time when several high-income nations are rolling out “booster” doses for those who are already inoculated.“Without a coordinated, equitable approach, a reduction of cases in any one country will not be sustained over time. For everyone’s sake, we must urgently bring all countries to a high level of vaccination coverage,” Guterres said.vaccine scarcity wasn’t an issue as the global vaccine production currently stands at 1.
