‘Contact tracing and nothing else’: Greens bid to ban police from QR code data | Gallo_Ways

The Greens will introduce a bill to federal parliament later this month that would ban law enforcement agencies from accessing the data.

“Some states and territories have recognised this and protected invaluable check-in data, but the law is inconsistent and other states like Victoria say they’ll gladly share this health data with police,” he said. The Opposition’s legal affairs spokesman Mark Dreyfus said QR codes had been a critical tool in fighting COVID-19 and the public needed to have confidence in them.

“Concerns about the handling of check-in data should be addressed by the relevant state or territory authority and/or the privacy regulator in that jurisdiction,” the spokesman said.
