Melbourne’s cut back on elective surgeries has put Siobhan Kellaghan-Tasker’s access to her “life saving” nasojejunal tube in jeopardy.

Siobhan Kellaghan-Tasker, 20, recently had a “life saving” nasojejunal tube fitted to help alleviate symptoms associated with her gastroparesis – a condition that slows or stops the movement of food from the stomach to small intestine.

Siobhan Kellaghan-Tasker holds concern for what reduced elective surgeries will mean for people with pre-existing conditions. Picture: Instagram The elective surgery waitlist has already ballooned to more than 65,000 people following last year’s outbreak in the state, which delayed or cancelled 30,000 operations.

“I have found out today and am very lucky I have an appointment for my new tube to be replaced next week, but there are many people out there in similar situations that haven’t been quite so lucky,” she said.

Why vaccine mandates must be a last resortHow readily should we accept state coercion and compulsion as legitimate tools of public health administration? What do you mean: 'how readily should we accept....?' We have accepted exactly that for decades. And it has served us well (yes, us, it's not about me, me, me, me, me....) I scoured the article looking for a valid reason to object to a vaccine and came up empty handed. 🤷🏽‍♀️ Then I thought about why they were needed and the list was too long for a tweet. Given so many people are using stupid excuses not to get it, mandates will be the only way to get community immunity up to a useful level.
