Government MPs are demanding Sydneysiders be banned from northern NSW, including Byron Bay once the state reopens, insisting non-essential regional travel should not be allowed until local vaccination rates catch up.
Health Minister Brad Hazzard on Thursday said there were concerns about vaccine hesitancy and supply in some regional areas, conceding supplies were “not as good as they could have been.” WA Health also confirmed this week NSW asked for expressions of interest from its personnel. Despite the request for doctors and nurses, only two fire and emergency staff have been deployed to date.
Mr Hazzard commended the state’s vaccine uptake, but expressed concern about “limits” to supplies of Pfizer, saying he did not know “what amount of Pfizer will be coming to us, even in a month’s time.” “I think we need to actually get a set of strategies that work, right down to the level of ... what percentage of staff are vaccinated, what percentage of residents are vaccinated,” he said.

The reason vaccine rates are lagging in parts of northern NSW is because a large minority have chosen not to be vaccinated. That is their choice. They have taken a risk that they may get very sick or even die from Covid. And a letter from Labor & Greens MP is not ‘bipartisan’.

Excellent idea. Until the Vax rate is equal in all LGAs travel should be only between areas above the threshold. The regions don’t want it and Sydney needs to support it.
