Victoria has recorded a drop in COVID-19 cases with the active cases in the state nearing 2,000 and more mystery cases for fatigued contact tracers to chase up.

Chief Health Officer Professor Brett Sutton warned Victorians to be vigilant and to follow strict stay-at-home orders with the majority of cases on Monday situated in eight local government areas.

"These numbers reflect the changing behaviours, the isolation, quarantine and testing and following the rules. They need to continue," he said at Tuesday's COVID-19 press conference. The Premier believes the state will reach one million residents who have received two jabs of AstraZeneca and implored people to make an appointment.

Premier Daniel Andrews announced the government has increased vaccine capacity across the state with an extra 40,000 vaccinations available each week and more pop-up sites for VCE students to get inoculated.
