Climate action cannot wait for COVID-19 pandemic to end, medical journals warn

PARIS: Global warming is already affecting people's health so much that emergency action on climate change cannot be put on hold while the world deals with the COVID-19 pandemic, medical journals across the globe warned on Monday .

"Higher temperatures have brought increased dehydration and renal function loss, dermatological malignancies, tropical infections, adverse mental health outcomes, pregnancy complications, allergies, and cardiovascular and pulmonary morbidity and mortality." As things stand, global warming could reach +1.5°C on pre-industrial levels around 2030, according to the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

"The COVID-19 pandemic will end, but there is no vaccine for the climate crisis. Every action taken to limit emissions and warming brings us closer to a healthier and safer future."
