NSW residents have been told to prepare for things “being done differently” in the state’s health system, as surge plans are activated to deal with rising COVID-19 cases.

Sydney firefighters and more paramedic graduates are on standby to bolster the NSW COVID-19 response as the state prepares for the biggest surge in cases since the start of the pandemic, with Premier Gladys Berejiklian expecting a peak in the next fortnight.

A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesperson said “it does not have medical transport capabilities” but is preparing to provide other assistance. The Premier said it was likely “different procedures”, such transporting patients to hospitals further from their home, would need to be used as cases increased. Alison Hodak, president of the Australian College of Critical Care Nurses this week said: “We need to look at different ways of managing the increasing cases, sharing the load of the patients across the whole system in NSW. That way we aren’t overloading one particular hospital or one particular workforce.“on the condition of anonymity, said about 20 operating theatre nurses have been moved to staff these units.

About 1000 Rural Fire Service volunteers and staff have been deployed to the pandemic effort, Police Minister David Elliott said, with “many more on standby”.

Lockdown until 2050.

Speak plainly to the people of nsw, no more hiding facts. Weve had a gutfull of it

Oh please listen to Biden telling fellow Americans that he doesn't trust FDA or mr Trump because he had no faith in vaccine for covid-19. Now listen to him he's back peddling and now he cant be trusted

We have half the healthcare capacity per person we did 20 years ago. Thanks to corrupt and lazy politicians pushing the population ponzi scheme economy. Need to pause importing consumers for a decade to catch up. Developers shouldn’t be running policy like they are.

A picture in my mind of a firey with an axe, in dirty yellow gear, looming over a person fighting for breath telling them he us about to do some hazzard reduction. M

How about we try something different and GetRidofGladys GladysFail GladysMustGo

An unvaccinated midwife? That’s terrifying for expectant Mothers.

It is doubtful that any ' changes' Gladys Berejiklian can introduce at this stage will have any real effect, It important test everyone now, at least in the suburbs most affected on a regular basis every 3 days even, to detect people in the community before they infect others.

I’m surprised she’s still the Premier, the most incompetent leader NSW has ever had. She should be charged with gross dereliction of duty of care for the people of NSW.

😩🤬🤬🤬🤬😈

When it was just a few hundred cases in NSW Gladys called it a “National Emergency”, yesterday with over 1400 its”You have nothing to worry about getting the disease”.

She didn’t see cancer patients are crying when their surgery are pushed back! Why you can not do something different? New Zealand did not leave positive person at home instead took them to somewhere collectively look after. This could help drive down the case. Why cant u try

Things have been done differently in NSW since the start. Expendable is what we are

I am hearing of people needing kidney transplants, heart stints, cancer treatment being cancelled. NSW health system is not able to cope with current cases of covid WTF will happen with double or triple those numbers? NSW Health is close to crisis not enough doctors or nurses.

Wasted 18 months chasing zerocovid If someone though about we would have had 10 new covid hospitals and no problem We splashed money on rising house prices ($30bn a mnth just to trade the existing houses) and now we have shortage of hospital beds before corona even started

competently?

For Gods sake please have the courage to say the JAB IS MANDATORY. Many will not understand that they will not be able to work, go out or travel without it?

Things being done differently? How about smh do things differently and report on jobseekers/pensioners receiving zero covid financial assistance 9 weeks in.

The media needs to shine light on the fact that there are people in the community that need life saving surgury but doctors are too scared to do it because of the number of covid patients in ICU. While I understand the risk, it seems that all other patients have been forgotten.

only TWO months too late

Feds need to step in with funding capacity and treatment outcomes are (primarily) all about money

So many people will be dying at home because of being released too early or not getting the in-hospital care needed.. A huge range of ramifications ahead, especially for DV victims. Gladys has destroyed NSW health and the media will cover it up for her and the LNP. COVID19nsw

Why is it that there is no information or research discussion for us all about possible early treatment of covid positive people ?There has to be more than simply many vaccination shots and anxiety at home for those few days to see if you need hospitalisation.

Yeah, things should be done differently for sure GladysB! Eg: You're still only 'working to triple' your ICU beds to 1500? So, after about 18 months of an active pandemic you still only had 500 ICU beds for 8+ million residents? WTF do you do all day?

Health pandemic contingency planning will do what it does, after Berejiklian failed to do what she should have: to act on best advice in July

So those 50, those with chronic health conditions, cancer sufferers etc, will be deemed less worthy of treatment & disposable? Those waiting for surgery will be put on hold, leading to suffering & deaths. But we can go to funerals. Yay.🤦

ResignGladys

If you ever have to shake her hand check all your fingers

Firefighters now. I appreciate their willingness to help, but surely they'll be busy dealing with the catastrophic bushfires coming our way that oh yeah the fucking government has done nothing to mitigate or prepare for. clusterfuck

Yes done differently especially when the leadership are shockingly fiction characters living in a wonder land!

'Ms Berejiklian said, adding people who need medical treatment will still receive “the best care possible”.' So no guarantees then Gladys? Just whatever is possible in a seriously overwhelmed system? Every other state & territory has a leader who cares. We have Gladys-the-Callous

'being done differently'? I guess that means ICU beds with ventilators in hospital carparks. 🙄 Thanks GladysB & ScottMorrisonMP
