Former health secretary’s comments come as government expected to announce NI rise of at least 1%

Taxpayers should pay more to fund social care, according to the former health secretary, who suggested this should be through a tax rise rather than a national insurance rise that “disproportionately targets” the young.

I love how Tories away from governance suddenly show a slightly more compassionate side. Like idiots false hero, Rory Stewart. Even though they spent years happily voting through horrible legislation, at the detriment of the poorest in our society.

Tax wealth, not wages. I'm sick of people owning houses not paying their way.

First of all, how much of that tax money that has been collected has been wasted and diverted to the wrong pockets? The problem is greed and corruption and let's not forget it is always the poor get screwed in taxes, not the mighty rich.

“Since older people are the biggest beneficiaries, it’s fair they should make a contribution.” They've already made a contribution, throughout their working lives.
