Sergeant Emily Fagan wanted to join the military to make a difference in the world but was hesitant to leave her life behind.
That's when Fagan learned about the Army National Guard, a component of the US Army that allows its Soldiers to serve part-time without having to relocate from their community."I never knew how many benefits came from being in the National Guard until he sat me down and talked me through all the opportunities," Fagan says. She learned that the Army National Guard offered tuition assistance and that she could serve while keeping her job at a major US pharmacy chain.
Even in the midst of tragedy, Fagan was surprised to find herself bonding with the people she rescued."I got to talk to people down there and see what their lifestyle is like," she says."I really appreciated seeing how people from a different area live."

NationalGuard Imagine being active duty, a wife, a mother, and a grad student while deployed. I had the privilege of working with some strong women in the military.
