Speaking ahead of this afternoon's Cabinet meeting on proposals which could end almost all Covid-19 restrictions by 22 October, Mr Donnelly said the latest research showed that about 60% of the population were comfortable with the pace of reopening, 20% wanted reopening faster and 20% slower.He added that behind those sectors there was a "majority" which was "broadly comfortable" with the Government's pace of reopening.

The Cabinet Committee on Covid-19 has formulated a proposal that would effectively bring the curtain down on restrictions on 22 October. Speaking on RTÉ's Today with Claire Byrne, Mr Brophy said the pandemic was not over, but that structures can be put in place to allow everyone return to a much more normal life. Speaking on RTÉ's Morning Ireland, he said that the industry needs to achieve 100% capacity as soon as possible, but added that the sector cannot be turned on overnight, particularly in the cases of theatres and venues.

The 20% that want slower opening are more than likely working, so no surprise there

The big factor now is that schools are returning to the delta variant...I would have thought a few weeks of seeing how that plays out would have been wise before announcing lifting of restrictions.

I like how RTE just repeats what he says without any kind of verification as to whether the unspecified 'research' actually says that.
