South Australia's peak doctors' union warns the state's health system would not cope with a local outbreak of COVID-19 as two major hospitals enter "major incident" mode due to overwhelming demand.Patients are being transferred to other hospitalsA "major incident alert" was triggered at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital this afternoon as staff struggled to cope with the pressure on emergency departments.
Health officials will be working to secure more inpatient beds in the public system and at private hospitals over the next 12 to 24 hours. "Can you imagine now if we had COVID in this environment, it's just mind-blowing what we will be able to do, or won't be able to do if COVID crosses the border and comes into South Australia.""It's disappointing that here we are again, and again, and again, it's the same issues, the same problems, internal disaster, not enough beds, overflow of patient presentations," she said.
In the memo, Mr Docherty told staff the Incident Management Team is meeting every three hours to review and assess the progress.
The predecessor government doggedly pursued the closure of hospital beds, general and psychiatric, until they succeeded. The current shortages are utterly unsurprising. Now in opposition, they feign outrage and demand $ to fix what they created.
Ditto WA
Nor will it in TAS, QLD, or the NT - prior to the pandemic long waiting lists for elective surgery - the mental health care system is the same - the pandemic is highlighting the existing weaknesses and gaps in many systems
South Australias new logo should be FOMO
Well SA government best start investing in their health system, because it won’t be that long until they’re having a decent amount of COVID cases…
Oh ok, then tell that to Morrison who is pushing states to open.
This is 18 months of people neglecting their health due to Covid restrictions…. all happening at once! Social isolation and serious mental trauma!
Soon as Union was mentioned I stopped reading.
And I thought it was only a West Australian problem?
Irrespective of what the politicians say the NSW system is creaking and reaching breaking point too. For those in SA go get your jab now. Don’t be like us in NSW, learn by our mistake. We were complacent, now we’re stuck in a long lockdown within 5km from the house.
You have to wonder is that why the lockdowns go on and on and on. Protection of people’s health Or Protection of political parties, a failure of a health system ousts a government.
A 1st World health system.... buckling at the seams.... You have allowed the religious pedophile hospitals to rort the system
What have they been doing for the last 18 months? This isn't a surprise.
Did it rally take the doctors union to warn us 😂
They've only had 18 months to prepare. Don't rush them.
Citizens of SA and WA now know the reality of the overloaded healthcare systems in those states...Its not just about Covid in the community & deaths, the Premiers & the health technocrats don't want Covid pushing Hospitals into chaos...
Fear fear fear that all they want us to do. Live in fear..
You haven’t even got COVID issues and your stressing please what about NSW and Vic ?
