Victoria has seen another increase in COVID-19 cases but more mystery infections as residents await an announcement from Premier Daniel Andrews on how long the state's sixth lockdown will be extended.

Victoria had recorded a drop in COVID-19 cases from Sunday to Monday with 73 local infections on Monday.At least 24 infections were in isolation for their full infectious period.

"Most of the outbreak is under control, but for those areas that are seeing the mystery cases in particular, Hobsons Bay, Wyndham, and Hume local government areas, we do see continued mystery cases amongst those other linked cases," he said.Prof Sutton continued to stress the importance of coming forward for testing if people experience the most minor symptoms as it will help contract tracers.

Mr Andrews announced the state's sixth lockdown set to be extended beyond September 2 as cases continued to rise in the community.
