THE Philippines reported 177 new cases of the highly-transmissible Delta variant of the coronavirus disease 2019 on Thursday, according to the Department of Health , pushing the total number of infected individuals to 627.Of the 177, 144 are local cases, three came from returning Overseas Filipinos and 30 are still being verified.Of those infected locally, 90 have addresses in the National Capital Region , 25 from Calabarzon , and 16 from Cagayan Valley.

Other regions with reported Delta variant cases were Ilocos, Cordillera, Western Visayas, and Davao.One of those infected had died, three are awaiting results while the rest have recovered.Aside from Delta, the country also reported 102 additional Alpha variant cases, 94 of which were acquired locally and eight are still being verified. One case remains active while the rest have recovered.
