We reported earlier this morning, two men in their 90s have died after testing positive to COVID-19 in Sydney.One acquired his infection at Liverpool Hospital, in Sydney’s south-west. He is the seventh patient at the hospital to die following an outbreak in its geriatric and neurology wards. He had received one dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
Western NSW Local Health District said there had been three new cases identified in Dubbo overnight, bringing the total of number of cases in Western NSW to six. Lockdown orders were implemented in the Dubbo and Walgett areas yesterday. NSW Deputy Chief Health Officer Dr Marianne Gale asked the local Aboriginal community in particular to please stay home and come forward for tests if they have symptoms.
Dr Gale confirmed there had been 24 new cases detected in the Hunter-New England area in the 24 hours to 8pm yesterday. Twelve are associated with the RFBI Hawkins Masonic Village aged care facility at Edgeworth, including 11 residents who are being treated at John Hunter Hospital.The Australian Capital Territory Chief Minister Andrew Barr will front the media within the next hour amid speculation the nation’s capital is set to follow several regional NSW towns and go into lockdown.
