IPOH: An internal memo meant for all Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital department heads on the supply disruption of medicine to treat Covid-19 patients has leaked online.

The hospital’s director Dr Abdul Malek Osman in a statement issued on Saturday said he took note of the memo that was uploaded by a media portal on Aug 5.

He said the memo was issued as an initial preparation, followed by planned actions to overcome the problem of medicine disruption and to prevent the interruption of patient care. Dr Abdul Malek added that high demand since May for drugs used for the treatment of Covid-19 worldwide caused the disruption.

“However the supply of these medicines are not completely cut off, instead they were supplied in stages to meet procurement needs.“Among others, it includes making emergency procurement, working with contract suppliers to find alternative sources, and discussing with the Infectious Disease Specialist chief on other alternative medicines that can be used to ensure continuity of treatment to patients,” he added.

Dr Abdul Malek said that the hospital is committed to ensuring that this situation is monitored continuously, and any issues resolved accordingly.
