INXS keyboard player, solo artist and farmer Andrew Farriss, 62, met US dancewear retailer Marlina Neeley, 46, in Canada in 2006. Four months after their wedding in 2013, Marlina was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Andrew’s intelligent, kind … and normal. When he came to meet my family in Ohio, he was sitting on my front porch having a glass of wine and he said, “In all the years I’ve been in the US, I’ve never sat on a porch and enjoyed the sunset.” I found that really endearing. “My cancer means that I’m not able to have children. I went through a hard time accepting that, but it has made me love the kids in our life even more.”Andrew’s solo career has been something positive to focus on. We work together on the imagery and the merchandise and I do the scheduling. I’m his PA in meetings. Before we go to the city, I say to him, “Make sure you pack your city clothes: you can’t walk into the meeting in your Hard Yakka T-shirt.
She’s been a tremendous healer in the family. I never had to navigate a marriage breakup as a child, but I had empathy for my children [Grace, 30, Josephine, 27, and Matthew, 24]. Recently, Marlina invited the whole family – my kids and my ex-wife, Shelley [Blanks] – to the farm. She said, “Life’s different now, but let’s all get on and have a good time.” I’m so proud of her for doing that.
“With INXS, I loved the fact that I could share a journey with those guys. Now I’m sharing the journey as a solo performer with Marlina.”
Why do you have to promote more Christians? Haven't we got enough of that with our appalling Prime Minister. Sorry this woman has breast cancer but this is not news it's just a story promoting their religious beliefs
