Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health defends the province’s controversial plan to end routine testing and isolation requirements, explaining how the success of vaccinations and the fall season ahead mean Alberta is ready to move forward

Alberta's Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw says, 'It’s important to recognize that, because we can’t eliminate COVID, the question isn’t whether or not we change our approach. The question is when.'Alberta is preparing to shift away from the strategy that has defined the response to COVID-19 since the pandemic began early last year: test, trace and isolate.symptoms or test positive for the novel coronavirus to isolate as of Aug.

The other thing that’s important is that, when [the U.K.’s] cases started to spike, they really hadn’t started their. Those under 30 were just barely starting to be able to access the vaccine, whereas we’ve been able to offer vaccine to those 12 and older since late May. No other jurisdiction has ended testing, tracing and isolation. What do you say to criticism that Alberta is going off in its own direction?

If the argument is that this is an issue of timing, why are you confident that now is the time for Alberta, given that we have some of the lowest vaccination rates in the country – far below jurisdictions that are continuing aggressive testing and tracing? We, tragically, have babies dying of congenital syphilis. There are opioid deaths happening. We have childhood vaccination rates dropping, cancer screening rates that need to be bolstered. There are all sorts of things that also impact Albertans every day that we simply haven’t had the ability to be on top of, because we’ve been focused on COVID as the number-one risk – which we had to do.

Test, Trace, Isolate until 85% of the population, including children under 12, is vaccinated. It is too soon to declare that we need to live with COVID.

How is someone like this…..a Doctor?

This person is sick in the head get rid of her before she destroys Alberta

What we were doing the last 16 months wasn’t working, so let’s get back to normal

Tell her to get up and defend her reasoning for being so reckless and abandoning her role as public health officer

Kenney thinks dismantling the testing system will hide all of his failings.

Bravo Alberta... Bravo

There never going to get a Hug Day in Alberta.

Deena for PM!!!

Because living with covid looks like this. abpoli covid19ab

FiretheUCP FireKenney FireHinshaw

A Recent study from Israel is now showing Pfizer’s efficacy had dropped from 88% to only 41% of those with 2 doses against the Delta variant. So obviously Dr Hinshaw is NOT following the science.

ByJamesKeller Adjust to living with it! Is code for we don’t know what to do and don’t want to do it anymore! Reckless, dangerous and goes against all Infection Control practices ! Test! Trace! Isolate!

Alberta is our guinea pig for the next 5 months. If by January 2022, their ICU's are not overwhelmed; then we will know these Delta variant warnings were meant to cause fear.Alberta is the least vaxxed province, so the stats & dire predictions should result in 1000's of dead pple.

She is so right

A

Because it’s statistically inevitable.

everyone has given up

CMOH_Alberta Can live with Covid-19 but has she or jkenney funded the hospitals and the workers to live with it? People over 60 RIP🙏 , Too Bad, So Sad.

Bc Kenney is cutting Public Health off?

Unfortunately. Albertans get to be part of her big population level medical experiment whether we give consent or not. She is willing to use Children as the collateral damage with her game of chicken with delta in her experiment. Pretty sure it would not pass many ethics reviews

Bless her heart

Maybe they should rethink this - look how that policy is working in Florida

bc of Patrick King's lawsuit for documentation proving the isolation of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The gov. was unable to provide it bc the virus has never been isolated. hence the follies de grandeur of exercising unconstitutional powers over citizens needed 2b rolled back.

Can we do a swap where antivaxxers living in Ontario move to Alberta, and we'll take all the vaccinated Albertans instead?

Unfortunately. Dr. Hinshaw has jumped a little too far ahead of the Delta variant (and any others that well could follow).

Really tired of hearing that statement from public health officials. It is unconscionable.

The Conservatives; Hey, death is a part of the life process! Get back to work!

Because Jason says so?

100% agree
