WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus made the appeal mostly to wealthier countries that have far outpaced the developing world in numbers of vaccinations.
Tedros pointed to a WHO target set earlier this year to ensure that 10% of the populations in countries receive vaccines against the coronavirus. Israel, France, Germany and many Middle Eastern countries have already started administering booster shots, and other nations, including the United States and Britain, are considering plans to do so in the wake of the emergence of the highly transmissible delta variant.
WHO officials reiterated their call for global “solidarity” to help battle the coronavirus pandemic and appealed to wealthy countries and corporations to help.

Vaccine scarcity is artificial! The global south needs to produce vaccines at scale, not millions but billions of doses, and that is accomplished not by donations but by the suspension of patents so local manufacturers can produce them.
Let’s be realistic. Richer countries should help poorer ones but not at the expense of public health in their own countries. Richer countries aren’t giving boosters for the fun of it. Disappointing that WHO are playing politics yet again.

This presupposes there's some kind of production bottleneck preventing the vaccine from getting to poor countries. The truth is venality and stupidity in the West is the main bottleneck, not Granny getting a booster at 6 months.
