The makers of rapid COVID-19 tests face strict rules that will let them provide them only to registered labs and health professionals amid fears that do-it-yourself test results could be misinterpreted.
However, guidance from the TGA this week outlines that producers of rapid tests must abide by a strict set of supply guidelines to ensure their products are properly used. They cannot be provided for the purpose of self-testing at home, and companies must provide training to health practitioners about the correct way to use and interpret the tests.
Rapid testing has been popular in the UK and Europe to the point that quick tests can be bought in supermarkets, butAustralian producers of rapid diagnostics have had success getting their tests approved overseas, with Brisbanewith an over-the-counter coronavirus test that was approved for use in the US this year.
MsEmmaK Unfortunately the Australian government treat their citizens like idiots. This is why we are such a nanny country.
MsEmmaK Does the govt want everyone to be locked up until they die (Of anything BUT Covid)? Every smart country in the world uses these - it allows freedoms eg. Denmark 51% vax rate is open by using these. They're pretty simple! 2lines +ve 1line -ve COVID19nsw CovidVic covid19Aus
MsEmmaK In the age of hysteria this seems wrong. Businesses should be able to buy & use them without any training to discriminate. Training isn't necessary just ask Dan Andrews, his group think tank didn't believe the security guards required any training.
