Mr Cioffi left his pregnant wife and baby daughter behind in Spain to travel to Adelaide to be with his mother Emanuela, who was recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer.
South Australian chief medical officer Professor Nicola Spurrier said that an exemption had now been granted for Mr Cioffi to make a "structured visit to the hospital to see his mother" if he could make it into South Australia.Professor Spurrier said SA Health had been in "constant communication" with the hospital treating Mr Cioffi's mother and the exemption had been granted based on updated health advice from clinicians.
Mr Marshall said there were more than 4,500 people looking to come back from overseas and interstate, many of them with "very compelling and urgent reasons to get back".
