The Victorian Ombudsman, Deborah Glass, has launched an investigation into the actions of Melbourne City Mission and the Department of Health and Human Services over a data breach by sex offender and former youth worker Alex Jones.
His trawling continued for over 13 months. During that period he met, searched, groomed and ultimately raped one of the children on the database., and failed to investigate thoroughly all the other children whose data he may have had access to.In February this year, Jones was sentenced in the County Court to six years' jail over the sexual assault of the then-13-year-old boy, "Zack".
, telling both it had contacted every child Jones had searched, and established that he had not approached any child other than Zack, when this was not the case.
