Image: Shutterstock/wideonet Image: Shutterstock/wideonet A NUMBER OF Bishops and priests say they intend to hold communions and confirmations, despite Covid-19 public health advice.
Last week, the Bishop of Elphin Kevin Doran said he had held discussions with senior priests in his diocese, and decided that scheduled ceremonies would proceed in line with public health regulations.Parish priest Fr Joe McDonald told The Irish Independent today that he has 1,200 children awaiting confirmation and communion, half of whom have been waiting since last year.
However, Health Minister Stephen Donnelly told the same paper that he urged Catholic bishops not to resume the ceremonies. He appealed to clergy to stick with the public health guidelines, pointing out that Covid-19 is a deadly virus. #Open journalism No news is bad news Support The Journal Your contributions will help us continue to deliver the stories that are important to youSo, today we’re asking: Should communions and confirmations be allowed go ahead this month?
Online squabbles lapped up by the profane pixie heads. With a few sockpuppet shills added to the mix.
Communion and confirmation serve not social or economic purpose……they don’t need to be brought back ever again
Yes,all communions & confirmations should go ahead as an important milestone of a child’s spiritual life. There is no evidence for them not to go ahead considering all vulnerable are vaccinated & over 85% of the population had a vaccine at this stage doesn’t justify restrictions.
Not before September as I've to spend €1,253.78 putting one in national and two in secondary level of so called 'free education' And as if that wasn't crazy enough expenditure; grandad's second marriage is towards the end of this month too
'Should we appease the pretend man in the sky with our cultish rituals and take the risk that some people may die doing so?' ABSOLUTELY FUCKING NOT.
Yes, but for the families who are practising catholics
Stick to the rules until everything is sorted 😉
Let them have it at croke park and other big stadiums/venues around the country. If it can be done for eid surely it can be done for communion.
No never
Yes.
Well if weddings of 100 are to be allowed and massive outdoor gatherings at sporting events then why not allow them with social distancing and pods
Masked, sanitised and Socially distanced in Church building is not an issue... it's the sloppy situation at the greedy local hostelry afterwards Putting 100 in each poorly ventilated function room with common toilet facilities and skeleton staff shared between rooms
Yup
Why is this even being considered the Catholic Church should have been ran out of Ireland when it's crimes against the Irish people were exposed. We are so quick to forgive and forget ....
'Allowed' as if it was in the gift of a secular government. This is not, yet, a Stalinist state. Best Practice will be followed. Family units, safer than a football match, outside drinking, eating, shopping a Parliamentary party meeting
Absolutely there's been too much postponement. Manage them differently but get it done.
Not a fucking chance!!! If partners can’t be with pregnant women miscarrying and labouring alone then not a hope should people who generally don’t even attend mass regularly get the go ahead on this.
I don't think the issue is the actual communions or confirmations, it's what happens afterwards with gatherings etc. That's what they don't want!
It's bloody ridiculous that weddings, christening, furneals and other events can go ahead but children cannot make their conformation or communions.
Let the body and blood of Jesus into the children. Then baby Jesus will help us defeat the covid plague sent by the dark lord Lucifer. Amen
Where is the regulation that is stopping them? None? Then what's the point in the article
No. That has been established already as unsafe and irresponsible. In any case, what Christian value is served by blind, self-gratifying defiance purely for the sake of blind, self-gratifying defiance when the issue of public health is the overriding issue to begin with anyway?
