Clinical researchers at the University of Queensland have developed a new test that could detect the cancer much earlier than existing practices."What is the main issue with this is that only 30 per cent of women are identified in early stages," Associate Professor Salomon told 9News. The new Queensland developed screening test, which detects indicators of the disease in a patient's blood, can increase the accuracy of early detection from 50 per cent to 90 per cent.
"It could be used as population screening of woman of a certain age in order to really ramp up our efforts to detect ovarian cancer much earlier," UQ clinical research professor David Paterson said.
