SBS has launched a live translation service of the daily NSW government COVID-19 press conference in languages other than English to provide communities with access to critical health messages.

The service will be introduced in additional languages including Mandarin and Assyrian shortly.

"This expands on SBS’s ongoing work providing essential support for diverse communities during the pandemic, delivering trusted, independent and accurate information in more than 60 languages across our multiplatform services." NSW Digital and Customer Service Minister Victor Dominello said the initiative would also be pushed on the government's social media channels.

ketaminh Well done absolutely critical so all can quickly receive accurate information first hand. 💪👏🏽👍

Would be great if every news channel and press release was put out in many languages/subtitles. Might help with compliance by our entire community, not just the English speaking ones.

hagsie Why’d it take so long to figure that’s needed?

FatherBob Great! Get some local community leaders up there too! You HAVE to reach out to people where they stand. Go to see them if you have to, not expect them to come to you always

Multiculturalism and a pandemic, what could go wrong😎

But will they watch/listen

Why now.... this should have been provided 12 months ago
