.MaddowBlog: At CPAC, attendees applauded the idea that the unvaccinated are preventing the U.S. from reaching its public-health goals. Dr. Fauci is gobsmacked.

There was no shortage of discouraging developments at the latest Conservative Political Action Conference event over the weekend, but theWith new variants of COVID-19 now surging in areas with low vaccination rates and right-wing media promoting vaccine hesitancy to its viewers, the Conservative Political Action Conference in Texas invited noted "Covid Contrarian" Alex Berenson to fearmonger about the safe and effective coronavirus vaccines.

A day later, Dr. Anthony Fauci sat down with CNN's Jake Tapper, who played a brief clip from CPAC and who asked the celebrated immunologist for his reaction., making no effort to hide his frustration."I mean, they are cheering about someone saying that it's a good thing for people not to try and save their lives."

Fauci's exasperated response was understandable. Infection rates are starting to climb a bit, reaching levels unseen since May. Hospitalization numbers are also inching higher, particularly in"red" states, where public-health systems are straining once again. Though COVID-related deaths have improved dramatically, the United States is still losing roughly 1,500 people per week -- roughly equivalent to a plane crash per day.. A lifesaving medicine is readily available for free.

Fauci deplores 'horrifying' moment at CPAC when crowd applauded anti-vaccine speech'The crowd cheered. As a public health official, what's your reaction watching that?' CNN host Jake Tapper asked the infectious disease expert. Would have been nice to actually get his reaction instead of cutting to Branson’s live Virgin galactic advert. And the irony? Those that are pushing this narrative have themselves been vaccinated. Some people in the country are utter fools and it’s down right embarrassing.

Fauci urges people to put politics aside to get vaccinated as 'nasty' delta variant ragesUnvaccinated individuals should put politics aside and get vaccinated to protect themselves from the highly transmissible and 'nasty' delta variant Dr. Anthony Fauci said Sunday. This is a public health issue and viruses, and public health don't know the difference between a Democrat and Republican or an Independent,'' the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease told ABC 'This Week' anchor George Stephanopoulos. A recent ABC News/ Washington Post poll found that 93% of Democrats said they were vaccinated or planning to get vaccinated, while only 49% of Republicans said the same. It’s Public Health’s job to inform and educate. It’s the people’s to make their own health decisions. Well, when you have a financial stake in something, you're always making a pitch for it.

Fauci: ‘There should be more’ local vaccine mandates“I have been of this opinion, and I remain of that opinion, that I do believe at the local level ... there should be more mandates,' Fauci said. 'There really should be. We're talking about life-and-death situation. We have lost 600,000 Americans already.” So, local control. States rights. Tell me more. I'd agree with local mandate strategy IF this was a disease like polio or something. Kids are not affected nearly as much as that. mandate this vaccine? hell no! advise you take it? hell yes! When it comes to it I am expecting health insurance companies to start denying claims for medical services associated with Covid-19 treatment where the patient is not vaccinated. No vaccine, no coverage. Of course there would be some excusable health based exceptions.
