A new strategy from Canada's Inuit organization calls on the federal government to support a national Inuit food security strategy to address what it calls a national public health crisis.

, called the Inuit Nunangat Food Security Strategy, says 76 per cent of Inuit over the age of 15 in Canada experience food insecurity, the highest rate of any Indigenous population in a developed country in the world.

The strategy specifically looks at support for families and children, food security programs and interventions, cost-of-living reduction measures, harvester support and infrastructure. The strategy also notes that Inuit food systems changed drastically starting in the early 1900s through colonial policies like settlement programs, relocation and residential schools.

I have sent care packages to Nunivut. Supplies freeze within mins while being unloaded from aircraft left running. We have farmers dumping over quota milk&Cdn groceries selling Cdns ungraded Mexican Beef&vegetables rotting in fields. Where the hell are our elected officials?

It's a poor photo , milk is about 16 a gallon now

Lol colonialism to blame again. Did the British chop down all the trees and burn all the crops creating the frozen tundra. It must have been pretty tough back in the day growing apples and keeping a herd of dairy cows grazing without polar bears attacking.

Easy fix start using the Arctic shoreline for aquaculture projects. Most fish squid etc. Couldn’t escape. Also, hunting seal and stuff for Canadian markets is an excellent idea.

Wow, I cannot believe all the racist comments... And, to the 'don't live there then' comments, ya right, lets ALL live in southern Ontario, where there is already too much smog and gridlock traffic. Canadian's should have affordable food, irregardless their address!

JustinTrudeau does not give a fuck about the native population.

Why, if I CHOOSE to live in Canada's far North, and also CHOOSE to eat like a Canadian living in the 'South' rather than live on what's available in the region as my ancestors did to survive there for millennia, is it the government's responsibility to subsidize my lifestyle?

That milk is expired. By A LOT.

It's almost as if logistics costs money...

Rcmp shot Inuit sled dogs in my lifetime.

Don't live it butt fuck nowhere

when they start to vote Liberal then things should change
