A Sydney woman has been arrested after she allegedly travelled to the ACT against public health orders.

Checks by ACT heath confirmed the woman had not been granted exemption to enter the state, and she was escorted to a hotel and ordered to remain there at her own expense.

At 11:45pm on Friday, hotel staff notified ACT Policing the woman had guests and was preparing to leave the hotel.The vehicle was stopped by police at around 12:05am on Kings Avenue, Russell, and the woman was subsequently arrested. She was charged with failing to comply with a direction by the Chief Health Minister and faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Saturday, before flying back to Sydney.

Sydney residents are faced with stay-at-home orders as the state reported a record number of COVID-19 cases on Saturday.NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian warned the lockdown could extend if people did not follow restrictions.
