She goes on to write about the strain post-match media conferences put on athletes and the backlash she faced after announcing she wouldn’t be participating in press at the French Open. In addition to incurring $15,000 in fines, Grand Slam tournament officials threatened her with larger fines as well as suspension from the French Open. Osaka withdrew from the tournament the next day.

Naomi Osaka says she's recharged and ready to return for Tokyo OlympicsOsaka explained her decision to take a mental health break and leave the French Open in a new Time magazine essay. Hope she medals and refuses interviews! They can’t take it away for that. 🥇 She is grate. But I feel her soul is not Japanese. All of athletes should not come to Japan. COVID-19 rushes to Tokyo from all over the world and players are at risk of death. We Japanese citizens refuse the Olympics hosting in Japan. The Olympics are very annoying for Japanese. Please do not come to Japan.
