An infectious disease and vaccine expert helps young people considering their next move

Suppose you’re a 25-year-old young person, male or female. How do you weigh up the risks of catching COVID, and the complications of that, with the risk of having a COVID vaccine, Pfizer or AstraZeneca?

So, what is needed is a way in which to calculate a risk-benefit ratio that’s relevant to you, as a young person. Such a calculator is available on the web from Britain. It was set up by the Oxford group. It’s extremely helpful if you live in the UK where disease is common but we need a risk calculator for Australian circumstances.

Media network fear mongering controlled by the government to force everyone against their free will to take the vaccine.

'That’s about the same risk as being struck by lightning. The risk of being killed in a motor vehicle accident is much higher, and the risk of getting a serious clot in a 25-year-old woman on the oral contraceptive pill is quite a bit higher.' Get vaccinated people.

What could possibly go wrong?

Once upon a time I yearned to be young again. 🙄

AMA advises under 40s to wait for Pfizer | Sky News AustraliaThe Australian Medical Association says it was blindsided by Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s announcement to allow under 40s to get the AstraZeneca jab and is advising them to wait for the Pfizer vaccine.\n\nOn Monday Mr Morrison announced GPs will be given no-fault indemnity for AstraZeneca shots given to under 60s in a bid to boost vaccination rates.\n\nHowever, it has been revealed the medical advice has not actually changed and the AstraZeneca vaccine is only recommended to those aged over 60 due to the extremely rare blood clotting side effect. \n\nThe AMA has said it is still backing the advice provided by the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI). \n\nAMA President Dr Omar Khorshid said,” now of course if we had a really big outbreak then the risk benefit changes, and AstraZeneca becomes an excellent vaccine for everybody”.\n\n“That’s where the disagreement, that’s where the confusion has been around this vaccine.\n\n'It is safe, it is effective, but for those under 60 there is a better vaccine and that is Pfizer.” \n ScottMorrisonMP That’s cos he’s winging it ScottMorrisonMP Yes. Also the CDC has put Pfizer on the warning list for heart inflammation. But we won’t talk about. Let’s just vaccinate everyone we can without informed consent. ScottMorrisonMP U40’s should see GP for advice about AZ

Parts of Queensland will run out of Pfizer by next week, Health Minister saysSunshine Coast University Hospital is one of the sites tipped to run dry on Pfizer in the coming days as the stoush between the states and the PM over AstraZeneca continues to escalate. ScottyTheIncompetent I cant have either until after my next mammogram as per breast specialist. Only thing is because so many things were halted due to covid there was a 6-8 week wait for bookings. Same for scans I have to have as well. Can't win either way! Who do we believe? The state government reckons we’re about to run out but according to karenandrewsmp the supply is steady? No wonder we’re all confused and now concerned. What a shambles!

Queensland to ‘run out’ of Pfizer vaccines within daysHealth Minister Yvette D’Ath has warned COVID vaccinations might be cancelled if Queensland does not receive more supply. Maybe she should stop misleading Queenslanders by telling them AZ poses more risk to under 40s than COVID. Then more could make informed choices about AZ instead of putting all the eggs in the Pfizer basket. IMHO ScottMorrisonMP JoshFrydenberg AnnastaciaMP I had my Pfizer and can confirm that I feel, at this stage, ok. IMHO I would have preferred my parents take pfizer Please provide this as an option to ALL Australians. I know a number that have taken AstraZeneca it’s ok. How do you cancel if there are not supplies, that does not make sense
