The Health director-general said the findings were based on genomic surveillance conducted by the ministry between June 11 and 19.
He added that 14 cases of the Beta variant consisted of three cases respectively in Selangor, Sabah, and Terengganu, two in Kedah and one each in Perak, Johor and Kelantan. Dr Noor Hisham said that up till June 19, there had been a total of 183 cases categorised as VOC and variant of interest .He added out of the 167 VOC cases, 137 of them involved the Beta variant and all are local infections.
Dr Noor Hisham said that of the 16 VOI cases, 12 of them involved the Theta variant, three linked to the Eta variant and another to the Kappa variant .
