Health minister Dr Adham Baba on an inspection of a new negative-pressure ambulance to be used to ferry Covid-19 patients.

“We still have to conduct continuous genome sequencing activity to detect if there is a new, more violent variant that could affect the efficacy of the AstraZeneca vaccine,” he said at a news conference today. Malaysia procured the vaccine through the worldwide Covax facility and directly from the manufacturer, with supplies from Thailand expected next month.

Adham said the government was implementing a strategy of “vaccinate first, register later” for those who are have difficulty in registering for vaccination, especially people in the rural areas.
