The Taoiseach has said Ireland is on target to introduce the EU Digital Covid Certificate from 19 July.

The new European-wide system, which will come into operation in a number of countries from 1 July, is designed to enable people to travel across the bloc.

"As we move on, more data and more research gives us greater confidence in terms of the decision making around Covid and around reopening society," he said. The Minister said that a huge amount of work is being put in place to allow people to travel safely in and out of Ireland without having to quarantine in other countries.

Speaking on RTÉ's Brendan O'Connor programme, Dr Henry said full vaccination affords solid protection against serious illness from the variant, and while its spread here has so far been contained, numbers are rising in Northern Ireland. Every day that supplies allow for further vaccines, we see the benefits. We're now down to 44 positive #COVID19 inpatients in hospital, 15 of those in ICU. 21 hospitals with just one case or less. Huge credit to public support & for the take up of vaccines here. @HSELive

Irish, 35 & living in Poland. Fully vaccinated and have my EU Covid Cert (paper copy). Poland did an awesome job at vaccines, online portal to search for vaccine points, sign-up and choice of vaccines

LeoVaradkar The target must be 1st of July. And still you'll be late compared to many EU countries.

But it’s not “on target” at all. They’re going against EU_Commission advice to allow antigen. They’ve already delayed it further than other EU states. And now CcoHse is claiming U25s or unvaccinated shouldn’t travel. It’s just a token gesture MichealMartinTD DonnellyStephen

If the EU can introduce this for travel why can't be produce something similar for everyday things in this country. Then we could fully open up the country for those that are vaccinated and leave it closed for those that are not.

Include UK to enable tourists to save Dublin and for people like myself to visit family, I'm fully vaccinated and would visit a town with a covid rate of 24.5 much much lower of where I live.

Why bother. Fly from Belfast.

Sooner the better

Is there any problem the state has suffered for the past decade or more that leotheliar hasn't sorted out in just a few days of an Ard Fheis ! superspoofer

No chance. We will all be dead from the Delta variant by then Won't we? WilliamsJon

MichealMartinTD so why is CcoHse saying this morning that under 25s should not travel? The green cert gives 3 choices- nothing about under 25s. Can we have 1 statement from our government and not a different one from HSE and Nphet.

Philipp82621183 On target? You are 19 days late and refuse to use antigen testing to prevent infection. EU laggards!

Will this be open to Irish citizens living in the North
