The Gauteng Health Department has temporarily suspended hospital visitations, but will allow one visitor for ’exceptional cases’. This as SA’s third Covid wave continues to spread rapidly, with over 7000 new cases in the province.

As of Thursday night, more than 1.7 million South Africans have been infected with the coronavirus since March last year and over 58 000 people have succumbed to the virus.

“As part of reducing the risk of our patients contracting the virus, visiting times for all healthcare facilities has been temporarily suspended. “In exceptional cases, only one visitor will be allowed and such a visitor cannot spend more than 15 minutes with the patient,” she said on Friday.“All visitors must be screened for temperature of Covid-19 symptoms and the visitors must adhere to all Covid-19 protocols,” said Kekana.
