Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan has said the public health advice remains for people not to travel abroad for a holiday unless they're fully vaccinated, and that it is the ambition of the National Public Health Emergency Team to see travel resuming given vaccination levels among the population.

Professor Nolan said that there have been significant difficulties in reporting the number of deaths in people with Covid-19 in Ireland due to the recent cyber attack affecting the HSE.On the subject of the Delta variant, Professor Nolan said it is reassuring that the number of cases identified is not increasing.
He has warned that people need to stick with public health guidelines and the vaccination programme to avoid a return to the the scale of the crisis in January, when the pandemic was "fire that was out of control".

People must go wherever they want, safe travel does not equal to holiday. We only need a negative test or recovery, not necessarily a vaccine. Ireland must just be European, and rtenews should do its job properly, communication must be clear, free from toxic misleading opinions.

Unless everyone can travel no one should be traveling. Fair is fair. Or why can't we just follow the EU passport method and test people for free.
This is totally misleading and untrue. The digital pass already in place in other EU countries allows people to travel whether vaccinated or not. The non vaccinated just have to present a negative PCR test. Tony and his gang shouldn't be listened to.
First , travel is not strictly holidays but also family reunion, health and business related. Having said that EU regulations are legally binding and CMO advice is only opinion. Covid cert includes either vaccine, or test or proof of recovery and Ireland had to sign up for it.
Typo in this article perhaps? Asked at today's NPHET briefing about families going on summer holidays in situations where the parents have been vaccinated and their children have not, Dr Holohan said he would not be advising for such families not to travel.

I'm a HCW & fully jabbed, we couldn't travel abroad since start of lockdown 2020 not even to green list destinations whilst others could, if we did it was 14 day quarantine on return without pay, get the jab & book your flights.

Yes don't travel anywhere.. including within Ireland I presume given that Ireland has higher incidence rates than Spain for example. Go figure
