EXCLUSIVE: Google is downsizing its health team and moving employees to Fitbit as part of a major reorganization

Google's Fitbit acquisition gives the tech giant more muscle to take on Apple and other rivals in consumer health hardware. The Fitbit team is now a part of Google's"devices and services" division, led by Rick Osterloh, a senior vice president.understanding how the Fitbit acquisition would fit in has been a big question.

One is focused on work with clinicians, led by Paul Muret, a vice president, the email said. The team will focus on building Google Health's flagship product, Care Studio, a Google-like search capability for electronic health records. The program is still being piloted with the Missouri-based Ascension and,The second team, called"Health AI," will spearhead innovation in health, including in medical imaging, the email said.

In recent years, many big tech companies have created centralized"industry" teams for healthcare, but now there seems to be a trend in the other direction towards selling consumer-grade apps and similarly"light" efforts, Dr. Jonathan Slotkin, chief medical officer at Contigo, a healthcare startup at Premier, told Insider.
