Nurses Day: Making a difference in the face of Covid-19

Moseki, who retired as nursing manager at Dr George Mukhari Hospital in Ga-Rankuwa, north of Pretoria, went back to the frontline of the pandemic fight at Phedisong clinic in Ga-Rankuwa. According to the International Council of Nurses, the day commemorated the birthday of nurse Florence Nightingale who came to prominence while serving as a manager and trainer of nurses during the Crimean War, in which she organised care for wounded soldiers.

“There aren’t single defining moments but being a trauma nurse and bringing a patient back to life when they looked hopelessis what is fulfilling,” said Mboba. Mpho Sekgothe, who is an assistant nurse at the Steve Biko Academic Hospital in Pretoria, said she had always been fascinated about taking care of sickand injured people.
