Health Minister Martin Foley said the latest case should be a wake-up call to people fatigued by COVID-19 restrictions and not abiding by public health orders. | sumeyyailanbey

Health Minister Martin Foley said the case should be a wake-up call to people who failed to abide by coronavirus restrictions and public health orders, which included wearing masks on public transport and ride-share services, and checking into venues using a QR code.“It slows down the response when people haven’t taken the opportunity [to check in].

Asked whether the owners of the Curry Vault would be fined, Mr Foley said: “I’m not an authorised officer. We’ll take advice from authorised officers as to whether there has been a breach. There are pretty strong penalties in place now for breaching public health orders.”“It is frustrating, but we can’t force everyone,” he told Nine News. “We can’t force people but our duty is to remind them.”

“I think the whole thing is a shambles in Victoria,” Mr Davis said. “I think the state government has not provided leadership or support for businesses, with many of them weak and vulnerable because of the multiple shutdowns. On Wednesday, South Australia Police Commissioner Grant Stevens announced a seven-day operation to send officers to businesses to warn and potentially fine patrons and owners who do not use the state’s check-in system.
