Crocs is giving free shoes to health care workers this week - but nurses aren’t the only ones rocking the ugly-cool shoes. Crocs shares are up more than 70% so far this year, and the company sold almost 19 million pairs in its fourth quarter.

The bulky, rubbery clogs that “Project Runway” fashion guru Tim Gunn once called “plastic hooves” and Victoria Beckham said she would “rather die” than wear have remained a divisive fashion piece for the past two decades. Fans say that Crocs CROX, -4.31% are comfortable, however, and the affordable price tag hasn’t hurt, either. The supportive shoes have also become a staple for many health-care workers who spend long hours on their feet.

iframe.twitter-tweet { width: 100% !important; } Crocs also launched its National Nurses’ Week promotion on Monday, where the brand will give 50,000 free pairs of Crocs to health-care workers over the next five days. From Monday, May 10 until Friday, May 14, health-care workers can request a pair here starting at noon ET each day, up until that day’s 10,000 free pair allotment has been fulfilled.

Sure, Crocs remain one of fashion’s most controversial styles. But lockdowns let people love their Crocs in peace, celebrity stylist and TV personality Phillip Bloch told MarketWatch. “You don’t have to hide your shame because you’re hiding at home,” laughed Bloch — who admits he owns a pair of gold-painted Crocs that he loves. “Besides, comfort is king. Coronavirus comfort couture is where it’s at — suits are gone, and track suits are in,” he said.

its sad that people think just because a certain person wore crocs they are cool. it means that person has no style. unless they were boating or something.

Never mind, all of them are ugly anyway 🤢 never see such a cheap plastic product so expensive for nothing …

Reminds me of the 'pet rock' marketing campaign. Great job!
