Shadow Treasurer JEChalmers has raised concerns for people sourcing vital health information and news in the wake of Facebook’s announcement it will block the viewing of all Australian news content on its platform.

Shadow Treasurer Jim Chalmers has raised concerns for people sourcing vital health information and news in the wake of Facebook’s announcement it will block the viewing of all Australian news content on its platform. “This will have consequences for people who are trying to access health news during a pandemic,” he told the media. “It will have consequences for all those people who rely on Facebook to get their news, credible news from credible sources.

“This exposes the big gap between announcement and delivery in the Morrison government”. Mr Chalmers pointed to Treasurer Josh Frydenberg, who he said yesterday “declared victory over the tech platforms”.

JEChalmers Mr Chalmers is wrong. Getting news from the source is better than getting it from a platform that can decide what it does and does not show.
