Coronvirus Ireland cases today: Massive jump as 1,718 cases announced and 13 deaths confirmed

A further 1,718 coronavirus cases have been confirmed this evening while sadly another 13 deaths have been announced.Speaking on the figures Dr. Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer, Department of Health: ““Ireland is no longer in a containment phase and is once again in a mitigation phase. Given the current levels of transmission in the community, every individual should consider themselves potentially infectious.

“Everyone needs to stay at home other than for essential work or care. This is not the time to be visiting other houses.” Speaking today Health Minister Stephen Donnelly has said the focus right now has to be “doing everything that is necessary to suppress this virus.” “We need to keep people safe, we need to keep people alive and we need to keep our hospital system and our healthcare system open.It is likely that Cabinet will agree to close shops, gyms, leisure centres, golf and tennis could all be closed from Wednesday at midnight.
